Poster Advertising

Poster advertising is one of the oldest forms of marketing and is more popular today than ever. Posters reach large numbers of people and are ideal for communicating your message directly to your target market. Poster advertising is an extremely cost effective way of attracting new customers and growing brand awareness. Whether you’re a start-up or small business owner, or an established and large company, there are many benefits of poster advertising.

Where are posters used?

Posters can be used anywhere, inside or outdoors. They offer high visibility anywhere people gather or pass by. You’ll see posters in shops, on windows, billboards and on walls or hoardings. Many bars and restaurants have posters on the premises advertising events or offers. You’ll see small posters in toilets and washrooms. Another great advantage of posters is that they are highly effective at encouraging a quick response with a web address, social media page, phone number or email address. Anywhere you’ll find people, you’ll see posters.

What is a typical poster size?

The size of a poster depends on its location. Inside retail or business premises posters might be A4 or A3 size. With outdoor advertising that will be seen from a distance, posters will be much larger. Your A3 poster might look big enough when you’re holding it but it will seem tiny and go unnoticed on a hoarding or shop window. Check the space you have available before you decide on size.

How big is an A2 poster?

A2 is a popular size that’s small enough to fit in a wide range of locations and large enough to get noticed. The size guide for A-sized posters is:
• A4: 210 x 297mm
• A3: 297 x 420mm
• A2: 420 x 594mm
• A1: 594 x 841mm
• A0: 841mm x 1189mm
Of course, there are many other sizes available but A-sizes are widely used for posters and other printed marketing.

What are posters printed on?

The paper used for poster printing depends on the type of poster. Good indoor posters are printed on strong, heavy 170gsm poster paper and can be matt or gloss laminated. At DigiatlPrinting.co.uk we also offer a 200gsm photo satin paper that further enhances images and colours. Outdoor posters are printed on water-resistant durable paper that adheres well to the base material without cracking or tearing.

What is the best file format for printing posters?

Use any software you like to create your artwork as long as you can save it as a print-ready pdf with bleed and crop marks. On the DigitalPrinting.co.uk website, you’ll find downloadable artwork templates in Adobe Indesign, Illustrator and pdf formats. You can add and upload your artwork that way or alternatively simply check our spec on the support page to make sure your own poster artwork is ready for print.
