Make an impact with folded leaflets « Back to list

Print folded leafletsIf you don’t need a full brochure or booklet but want to say more than you’ve room for on a flyer, a folded leaflet could be exactly what you’re looking for. Folded leaflets are used for everything from menus and newsletters to promotional material. If you’re thinking of using a folded leaflet to market your business here are a few tips to help you get the best from this valuable and versatile marketing tool…

Write a brief

If you’re a designer or marketer you’ll already know that before you even think about beginning a new project you need a brief. If you’re putting together your own leaflet, write the brief yourself.

Your brief should cover essential areas such as:

-Purpose: Exactly what do you want your folded leaflet to achieve?
-Audience: Who are your potential customers? What’s your target market?
-USP: What’s your unique selling point? Why should potential customers use you over your competitors?
-Call to action: What’s the call to action for readers? Visit your website? Order a brochure? Call you?

Once you’ve covered all of these areas and answered them fully you’re ready to design your leaflet.

Use a design hierarchy

To make sure you say all you need to say and to ensure your folded leaflet leads readers in the right direction (to buy) give your leaflet a structure. AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) is one acronym used in marketing to describe the sequence of events that occur before someone engages with marketing.

– Attention: Get the attention quickly and effectively. Ask yourself what will appeal to your target audience?
– Interest: Keep readers’ interest by demonstrating features, advantages and benefits of your service.
– Desire: Make readers want your product or service. Convince them you’re the best supplier to meet their needs.
– Action: Make it easy for them to buy or contact you and tell them to do so.

If your leaflet follows this type of formula your chances of its success will be greatly improved.

Choose a size and style

With your brief written you can decide what size your leaflet needs to be. Will it be a simple half folded leaflet or do you need six panels? If you need six panels will your leaflet be roll folded, a gatefold of a Z fold? Sketch ideas for layout on a piece of paper before you get stuck into your design.
