What’s the difference between vinyl and PVC printed banners? « Back to list

vinyl-banners-2

It’s a question we’re regularly asked by our customers who see both terms used on printers’ websites and on marketing material. Our answer is always the same: None! That’s why on our website we use the term vinyl PVC banners. PVC stands for Polyvinyl Chloride, sometimes shortened to vinyl. In its many different forms, polyvinyl chloride is used for everything from records (you’ve heard of the vinyl revival), cable insulation, piping and bottles to imitation leather. And of course, signage.

Are all vinyl PVC banners made of exactly the same material?
There are many different sorts of vinyl used in the making of banners but at DigitalPrinting.co.uk we use only top quality heavy 450gsm RipStop vinyl. This material is extremely durable. It’s tear resistant and completely waterproof so you can use your banner indoors or outside in any weather. Most customers choose to have eyelets added. Placed in each corner on smaller banners and approximately every 500mm along the edge of our larger banners, eyelets make it easy to hang your banner in any location.

When could I use my vinyl PVC banner?
It’s really up to you. Vinyl PVC banners are very hard-wearing but also light, so they’re used everywhere from trade shows and events to business premises. Their low cost makes them great even for short-term use, like advertising a coming event, new shop, special offer or new product. Other customers use banners for parties and private events like retirements, birthdays or to say congratulations for a wedding or graduation.

Tips for designing your vinyl PVC banner

Effective design for large format print like vinyl PVC banners follows a couple of simple rules:

Keep it simple – Go with a headline and maybe a strapline along with your logo and business name if applicable. Never use too much text. Go for an immediate, big impact.

Use only great images – For print on a banner you need to use 300dpi images, ideally, at the size, they’ll be printed on your banner. Anything else could look blurred or pixelated.

Make a big impact with a big range of vinyl PVC banners
