Smart, simple and effective – Saddle stitched books « Back to list

So your document is designed, approved and ready for print. However, you’ve a number of choices still to make including finish and paper type. You also need to decide on one of three binding options. There’s perfect binding, wiro bound and saddle stitched. And for our customers at DigitalPrinting.co.uk, saddle stitched remains the most popular choice for publications of up to 48 pages.

Saddle Stitched Documents
What is saddle stitching?
With saddle stitched books, the spreads are stacked, folded along the centre and stapled – or stitched – along the crease so that the staples close on the inside of the fold.

Why choose saddle stitched books?
Saddle stitching is great for any publication of 48 pages or less. Customers regularly use saddle stitched when printing:

• Brochures
• Promotional booklets
• Reports
• Magazines

Saddle stitching is great value for money and is ideal for short productions runs as well as large amounts. If your document is over 24 pages we’ll square off the spine to stop your booklet springing open and make it easier to stack. The spreads of your saddle stitched book will open flat, so your design can go across two pages and if your publication is a report or any document that might need to be included in a ring binder, we’ll hole punch it along the spine. There’s no minimum quantity your and saddle stitched books can be produced and delivered extremely quickly.

Saddle stitched books look professional and like all our products are printed using our HP Indigo presses which produce sharp, perfectly reproduced images and bright, true colours. You’ll definitely send out the right message for your business with saddle stitched books.

What sizes are available for saddle stitched books?
With the recent addition of A6, there are now five sizes available including our most popular option, A4. Your book can be printed in landscape or portrait, as well as 210mm x 210mm square.

What sort of paper can I have?
You can choose from an extensive range of papers and finishes. There’s our premium uncoated paper as well as silk and gloss. Weights range from 130gsm to 350gsm. Many customers choose heavier paper for their covers and we recommend you laminate your cover for extra strength and durability. There are recycled options and if you need something really special, choose from our stunning luxury paper range.

A few tips when designing for saddle stitched
Because saddle stitched books are made by folding the spreads, your final page count must be a multiple of four. Saddle stitching works for documents of 48 pages or less. If your publication is over 48 pages, choose perfect bound or wiro binding. Also, leave a good margin between text and the centre of the page so that your content is easy to read.

It’s easy to order your saddle stitched books. You can get prices, upload artwork, order your job and arrange delivery online.
