Introducing Marsala Pantone Colour of the Year 2015 « Back to list

The Pantone 2015 Colour of the Year, unveiled in December, is Marsala. A rich reddish-brown that brings a fresh look to print collateral and helps businesses stay bang on trend.

Pantone Marsala
Every year since 1990, Pantone Colour Institute has nominated a Colour of the Year, forecasting a specific hue of choice for designers and consumers for the next 12 months. The selection requires careful consideration by the colour committee that meets in secret twice over the course of a year. The colourists pitch palette concepts, debate colour trends gathered from experts around the world to decide on which colour will be known as the new black for the year ahead.

2015’s Marsala is a rich contrasting colour, ideal for use in print design and packaging. Pantone describe it as “Eye-catching but not overwhelming or bright, consumers are immediately drawn to the hue, making it an alluring shade at point-of-purchase.”

Marsala is an elegant colour and as print becomes increasingly more artistic, this is a natural fit for printed assets like brochures and menus. This warm hue works beautifully when used on its own or combines dramatically with neutrals, including warmer taupes and greys. While it’s burnished undertones are highly compatible with amber, turquoise, teal, and blues for an eye-catching combination on posters or labels.

Print with depth using antique gold metallic with Marsala for triple thick luxury business cards, brochures or menus, all of which will look excellent in this shade. Finish with a matt lamination to highlight Marsala’s organic nature or a soft sheen to convey a message of glamour and luxury.
