Trade show tips

Trade Show ExhibitionTrade shows can be a great source of sales leads and can introduce a large number of potential new customers to your business. They can also take a lot of your time, effort and often money. However, there are ways to make the very most of your trade show appearance and by following our trade show tips your investment should really pay off.

Be relevant with well-targeted material
Don’t use print or promotional material left over from previous events. Make sure all of your marketing is targeted to those who are attending the trade show. Potential customers will quickly move on to someone whose products or services clearly meet their specific needs so know the type of people who are attending and tailor your marketing to them. Of course, bring plenty of business cards. You can even print new cards specifically for the event – a great way to get your business remembered days or even weeks later when the recipient finds your card again.

Talk to people – and listen
Rather than just give a full overview of your business or hand out brochures or leaflets, ask people what they’re looking for. Show people you can provide solutions to their specific business problems and they’ll be much more likely to remember you and become customers.

Be creative and stand out
Many exhibitors have ordinary tables or generic units from which they’ll hand out their promotional material. Make sure your stand that gets noticed from across the room and gets the attention of anyone attending. Trade shows put you directly in front of potential customers in a way that other marketing campaigns can’t, so make the most of the opportunity with a creative, original stand that makes a real impact. Your presence at a trade show is an investment in your business. Make the most of it and that investment will really pay off.

Any offers?
Many people will ask if you’ve any special offers or deals. Again, rather than hand out a discount flyer, find out what they do and ask how your business can help them. Then you can give them an offer on a product or service you know they need. Giving a discount code exclusive to trade show attendees or a limited period in which to buy is a great way to turn the lead into a sale.

Network
Armed with your business cards, take a walk and meet other exhibitors, attendees and visitors. Introduce yourself and make conversation – but don’t go into a sales pitch. Everyone at a trade show is there for their business so talk to as many people as possible and leave them with a business card. You can follow up in the next few days.
