Your guide to book printing « Back to list

Whether you’ve just designed this year’s company catalogue or are writing and publishing your own novel, you’ll find there are a number of choices when it comes to printing. You’ll need to decide on binding, size and paper type. At DigitalPrinting.co.uk, we print books and documents every day for a wide variety of uses. Our customers can be anyone from large businesses to sole traders or private customer who aren’t in business at all.
Perfect Bound Book Printing
We know a thing or two about book printing, so we’ve put together a guide to help you really bring your design to life.

Binding
We offer three types of binding and the one you choose will depend on the size and purpose of your book.

Perfect bound
If your book is between 40 and 700 printed pages, perfect bound could be perfect for you. All the pages are stacked and then glued along the spine. The cover is then wrapped around the block of pages and glued along the rear edge with strong and flexible PUR glue. Perfect bound books can be printed on the spine and the finish is extremely neat and professional. Our customers use perfect bound books for reports, magazines, catalogues and novels.

Saddle stitched
If your book is up to 48 printed pages, think about saddle stitched. The spreads of your book are folded and bound together with staples – or stitches – along the fold. Many brochures, magazines and reports use saddle stitching. Saddle stitching is very cost effective and extremely popular for many types of printed books. Remember that one spread will make four pages so your final page count must be a multiple of four.

Wiro bound
Also referred to as spiral, coil or wire binding, wiro bound books are great for manuals, recipe books and reference material because the book can be opened perfectly flat or the pages folded back on themselves. With wiro bound books the pages are stacked and hole punched along the rear edge, then bound together with a coiled metal spine. Wiro bound is suitable for books of between eight and 360 printed pages.

Page size
At DigitalPrinting.co.uk our customers use printed books for a variety of purpose so we supply an extensive range of sizes. You can choose from A6 (for perfect bound and saddle stitched), A5, A4, 1/3 A4 or 210mm square and if your book is wiro bound you can go right up to A3.

Paper type
We supply a huge range of paper types, weights and finishes including recycled options. There are silk, gloss and premium uncoated papers. We also offer matt and gloss lamination which many customers use for their covers. We also offer a stunning luxury paper range for when you need something that looks and feels extra special.
